M118lr load data varget

Mar 10, 2012 · Reloader 15 has a slower burning rate than Varget, which isn't a bad thing. It comes in at number 129 on that list. So it may burn in a short enough length to give you good velocities, but without quite as much temperature. It's been used in .223 and .308, and was the powder chosen for US military's M118LR ammunition.
Mar 20, 2020 · In summary, the “Super Match” loads had marginally better group sizes. Again, the limiting factor with aperture sights is my eyesight. Perhaps with a scope, there would have been a larger difference in group size and the “Super Match” loads would have likely grouped at 1 MOA.

Feb 01, 2020 · Does anybody have info on the M118LR? I know what bullet it uses but I can not find the powder, I found it before but now I can't, I'm thinking it's RL15, Varget or IMR4064. - Sep 05, 2015 · For a starter, there are some classic loads, typically using either the 168 or 175 SMK or other BTHP match bullet, over either IMR 4064 or Varget that are great starting points. Most of these are well-published for use in the M14 and are close duplicates to the Federal GMM load data.

Using the standard A-Max load, We where shooting clean over top the target, using the mildot setting for the A-Max. Made by Sierra, they are ball point match kings.

For comparison purposes, using a 15 round sample (3, 5-shot groups), 44.2 grains of Varget was 2717 feet/second with an SD of 10.7 (avg size of 3, 5-shot groups was .605″) and 44.8 grains of Varget was 2755 feet/second with an SD of 13.2 (avg size of 3, 5-shot groups was .974″) from this gun on the same day.
- I also trickle every single round because Varget powder (I pity the fool who doesnt use Varget) does not meter well. I have noticed that if the scale reads 24.9 and I am loaded to 25.0 that 4 to 5 pieces of Varget is 0.1 grains. In addition to Varget and IMR 4064, a half-dozen or more other powders work extremely well in the .308 case: AA 2460, BLC-2, IMR 4895, Reloader 15, Ramshot TAC, VV N150, and VV N540. Some folks are seeing a little more velocity with RL15 than with Varget, but Varget is still less temperature sensitive–important if you’re running near max.

The current M118LR is 175gr SMK 43.1gr/RL15. The original M118LR load was an overcharge as stated on Alliants web site. The last of M118LR I have recently checked I also was not able to weight the powder but it appeared to be either 4895 or Varget. Velocity for 3 rounds out of the M70 was 2661 fps. I had duplicated this last load about 12 years ago as my standard match load for the M70 is the 175 gr MK over 44.5 gr of Varget in LC89 match cases (45 gr in WW ...AR-Comp is outstanding in both 223Rem and 308Win. It was originally designed for the M118LR application, and it delivers best in class efficiency, accuracy and temperature stability there. It also excels in 223Rem, up through 77gr or so.
